The mechanistic study performed by Katharina Böttinger in collaboration with the Christian Doppler Laboratory of Mechanistic and Physiological Methods for Improved Bioprocesses headed by Prof. Christoph Herwig entitled Development, characterization and application of a 2-Compartment System to investigate the impact of pH inhomogeneities in large-scale CHO based processes was accepted for publication in Engineering in Life Sciences. Christof Regl's PhD Thesis entitled Quantification and Site Specific Assignment of Post-translational Modifications in Monoclonal Antibodies was recognized with the Merck-Award for PhD Theses in Sciences 2019. Prof. Jörg von Hagen of Merck GmbH, Darmstadt, emphasized the tremendous importance of in-depth protein characterization in the pharmaceutical industry in order to guarantee the safety and quality of protein-based pharmaceuticals.

Katharina Böttinger and Christian Huber attended the 30th Jubilee Meeting of PhD Students in the Field of Separation Science organized by the Working Group Separation Science of the German Chemical Society. The program featured a number of high-class presentations focusing on all aspects of modern spearation techniques, including a presentation entitled Glycosylation Profiling of Intact Monoclonal Antibodies by IP-RP HPLC-MS given by Katharina (full program here). Highlight of the anniversary party was music presented by the group Chemists after Dark featuring Saarbrücken Alumni Frank Steiner, Jochen Saar, and Stephan Lamotte, as well as Salzburg Alumnus Volker Neu: excellent performance and lots of fun!
